Sur
Sur
SUR was born from the brain of Northern California-bred musician/producer Zack Arnett who built a makeshift studio in the back of an RV, set out on a journey and began creating a sound both gritty and melodic, nuanced and volatile, reflective and deeply life-affirming. Returning to L.A., Arnett continued shaping the songs he’d started during his travels, recording at home and out in Joshua Tree. Self-producing the Savage Beast EP and handling all the instrumentation, the lifelong musician carved out a hypnotically textured sound that fully embodies the forces at the heart of SUR: love, violence, and nature. SUR builds a powerful dynamic by fusing inventive electronic elements and visceral rhythms rooted in native drum patterns heard on lead single “Lean Back”. Arnett, a visual artist, poet, self-described American medicinal farmer, former graffiti artist and prolific painter created SUR’s nature-themed artwork. When it came time to name the project, he decided to pay tribute to the place he’s long considered a spiritual and creative haven. “Big Sur is my compass, it’s what compelled me to be a creator in the first place.” The title to SUR’s forthcoming release echoes the EP’s open-hearted exploration of the conflict within the human spirit. “We try to rationalize everything we do, but at the end of the day, it’s all just animal instinct.” This music is partly looking at how most of us can be very savage, even when it seems like we’re so put-together and in control.
DAVIS
DAVIS
DAVIS is an alternative artist based out of Los Angeles. His sound has been compared to everyone from Bob Dylan to Arcade Fire; Cage The Elephant to The Clash; Nirvana to Beastie Boys. He performs with a full band behind him. In August 2016, DAVIS released the "Crooked Finger EP,” recorded with producer Brent Kutzle (OneRepublic) all throughout the U.S. in a DIY studio built in an RV. Recording on the road gave the songs an eclectic American sound. The process was extreme: one moment vocals for the title track "Crooked Finger" were cut in a trailer park in Portland while the next moment guitars were cut on Jack White's amp at the legendary Sound Emporium studios in Nashville. This push and pull informed the production process and created something fresh. After the success of the EP, DAVIS released the track "Hello" in April 2017. Moving forward, he will release one song a time. DAVIS strives to constantly evolve, pushing the musical landscape forward with each new track.
Lone Kodiak
Lone Kodiak is an LA-based indie rock band known for their vast, intimate and moody sound, passionate performances, and deeply affecting lyrical content. It is comprised of Dainéal Parker (the visionary), Daniel Alden (no one cares about the bassist), both founding members of emberghost, the Portland rock band that was in talks with Sony Music before tragedy struck the group, along with former We are Kings and Queens drummer Andrew Smith (the conscience).
