Cardioid
Cardioid
Newly minted Angeleno, Lizzy Ellison finds herself way out of her comfort zone in southern California -- and that's a good thing. After years of pumping up the indie cred of Portland darlings Radiation City, Ellison teamed with Riley Geare (Unknown Mortal Orchestra) to form the core of Cardioid. The result is something far less cloistered and calculated than RadCity ever dared to approach, letting Ellison's vocals drive this train of quirky modern pop. Patient crescendos open up to dance rock denouements, a country tune pops in for a "howdy-do," and flat-out R&B reveals Ellison's immediate and engaging honesty.
Tents
Tents
TENTS creates lush, ethereal environs of vintage synths and organs decorated with earnest, vulnerable vocals expressing the lighter side of indie and dream pop - all while a pulsing beat pulls you in and you find your head gently bobbing. Bandleader Brian Hall is a composer, and spent a decade honing his production skills making soundtracks. He is joined by Amy, his wife of 14 years, with whom he has two children. Also Chris who has a hipster AF coffee shop in SE PDX.
Reflective Detectives
Reflective Detectives are a conglomerate of psychedelic sound masterminded by 23-year-old songwriter and guitarist Ryan Gabrinetti. Conceived in near-complete isolation, the Detectives are trained to invoke feelings of personal and societal introspection made deliverable to the listener through a hip vessel dripping with reverb and fuzz. From delicate and catchy surf melodies to mind-bending freak-outs, Reflective Detectives meld the sounds of yesteryear with the necessary social consciousness of tomorrow. Their debut LP “Third-Rate Non-Entity” was released in 2016, and a second full-length album “Total Fiction” is set to follow this summer.
